The Texarkana Museums System has served the Ark-La-Tex area since 1971, providing quality educational experiences and public programs. Continuing our mission, TMS proudly presents a special workshop focused on teaching the basics of preserving family heirlooms. This workshop concentrates on the unique needs of paper items and photographs, the most common family memorabilia. From newsclippings to scrapbooks, all paper items present a challenge to the family preservationist. Join TMS Curators, Melissa Nesbitt and Jamie Simmons as they demonstrate the techniques and materials used to prolong the life of family history collections.
Workshop begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m.
Workshop attendance is limited to 15.
A box lunch will be provided at Hopkins Ice House.
A preservation starter kit, resources and handouts will be provided to each attendee.
Cost is $20 per person.
Registration deadline: April 20, 2012
Lunch will be at Hopkins Ice House, located on East 3rd Street in downtown Texarkana. This is a short walk (or drive) from the Ace of Clubs House. We will go as a group to Hopkins for the meal. Lunch consists of your choice of sandwich plate plus tea or water to drink. If you have special dietary needs, please let us know at the time you register. Phone Jamie or Melissa at 903-793-4831.
As part of the workshop, participants will receive a preservation starter kit consisting of an archival storage box filled with preservation materials and a pair of cotton gloves. Resource information, preservation guides and other handouts will also be provided.
